I swear every little boy I know absolutely loves Thomas the Train. But I'm pretty sure my son may be his biggest fan.
I thought that since this was the first time I had ever carved a cake, and covered an oddly shaped one with fondant, that I'd be so frustrated that I would just throw it away and make a circle or square cake. But this was probably the funnest and quickest cakes that I've made so far.
I made Thomas' face a few days before so it would have enough time to dry. Once my son saw the finished face he instantly knew who it was. I was quite relieved that it did look like Thomas. Even though I think that this cake turned out well, considering it was my first time making a character cake, there are certain things that I would change if I were to do it again. The main thing being, using a denser cake. I made a chocolate cake that was super spongy and it didn't hold it's shape as well as I'd like.
Thomas pulled the desserts onto the table!
The best part about making this cake was that I knew my son would love it no matter what!
